Video tribute to missing @CharlieHallBand this weekend

Last night I saw Charlie Hall tweet about a good show he did in St. Cloud, Minnesota, right down the road from me! Wish I had known he was coming because I always enjoyed worshipping with him in a smaller, intimate settings at Irving Bible Church in TX back in the early 2000s and then at Falls Creek camp in OK with the youth group I led during seminary.

As a tribute to missing the show, here's a little video of my old youth group goofing around at Falls Creek in 2003. We went around and asked a lot of different people to read different "lists" just because we were bored, and one of the lucky candidates was Charlie Hall. Sorry, Charlie! Hope this doesn't haunt you 6 years later! :)

View of our lake from the kitchen this morning

The snow is gently falling this morning. As much I wasn't really hoping to have snow this early in October, the first couple snowfalls sure are pretty... until you're tired of them and just want to go away by the time December rolls around.

Our youth team leader's meeting today

Had a great meeting today with some of the adult leaders on the youth staff team at my church over lunch today. Shared a lot of fun, encouraging stories and God-sightings, discussed some struggles, I did a brief training, and I promoted the Simply Youth Ministry Conference, pushing them all to attend if at all possible. Since it's in Chicago this year, we can drive and keep expenses down, meaning we can take a lot more people than last year. Hope they come!

Thanks to Kami at Simply Youth Ministry/Group Publishing for the fun conference swag!

Hannah's first snowfall

Yup, it started snowing tonight. Feels a bit early for snow, but oh well. Hannah wasn't too impressed.

Screenshot of Twitter in my Google Wave

Got my Google Wave invite last night thanks to Russel Martin. Been playing around with it a little and it's pretty bare-bones right now, which is to be expected since it's still in closed invite-only beta.

I used the Tweety bot to add Twitter to my Wave account. It's definitely does not replace Tweetdeck, but hey, it's a start for a new technology that's still under heavy development.

If you don't know what Wave is, it's Google's suggestion for replacing email. This YouTube video explains more.

Bye Bye MacBook (from Dana's blog)

MacBook

Well, my MacBook was fried. Tim and I had a joint hand in doing it. Tim was handing Hannah over to me to feed, and while laying her on the pillow in my lap she started rolling off and we both went to catch her, and in the process my water cup got knocked over and into the keyboard in my MacBook. Hopefully Apple will start making them waterproof, that would be nice! We don’t have the money to buy another one, we got mine for free from the money Tim made on the referral website he does. So now we’re attempting to be a one computer family. Tim has his MacBook for church, so that helps if we both want/need to be on the computer at the same time, like now. We went down to visit Tim’s brother and family this weekend and went to a mall near Minneapolis to take my MacBook and get the Apple store people to look at it. We didn’t know you have to set an appointment, so we left my MacBook there to get looked at and they called Tim yesterday letting him know it’d cost about $700 to fix it, but for just a couple hundred more we could get a brand new one. We still need to go pick it up, probably this next weekend, and I’m not sure what we’ll do with it, maybe sell it for the parts? I don’t know. I guess we just will have to learn how to share a computer. This will probably be good practice for when Tim’s car dies. We’ve talked about trying to see how we can get by with just one car, and I think we’re in the ideal town to do it because our town is so small. It’ll be more inconvenient, but doable.

I have been pretty good at updating pictures of Hannah on Facebook, but for those of you not on Facebook, I will be updating our online photo album, so you can click on the photo link at the top of my blog and see the pictures. Check back soon for pictures!

So sad. Dana's Macbook is gone forever. At least we got it for free, so it doesn't feel like we just lost a big investment either. Still sad. She's moving in on my iMac now, which is fine. Set her up with her own account, so it's all good. Now if we could just get iPhoto and iTunes to share nicely between our accounts...

I love this picture of Hannah

This girl is just so darn cute! (Wish I had the manual focus on her face more than her shirt though. Doh!)

Muslim teen girl converts to Christianity and receives death threat from family

I watched this teen girl's testimony on YouTube and enjoyed her enthusiasm and passion for the Lord. It was recorded earlier this summer.

Then I watched this video and realized that the fears she mentioned in her testimony started becoming a reality around August.

Here's a CBN news report that goes into more detail.

A little further research online indicates that the trial is scheduled for October 27 in Ohio, although she currently lives with foster parents in Florida. She also apparently has received death threats from Muslim groups in other countries, especially Italy.

This girl surely inspires me. If she's willing to stand up against her family in Jesus name when renouncing Him could provide safety and make all this go away, I have no excuse for not bringing God up in conversations. This is pretty cool to see, especially from a 17 year old.

My youth group is in the middle of a 5 week series on evangelism. Tonight we talked about sharing our "faith stories" (testimonies) and I used these videos tonight and others to give examples of what a testimony is and about sharing it even when we're afraid of "persecution." But I tell you what, we have such a weak view of persecution compared to Rifqa Bary. We are sometimes way too comfortable and passive in the USA.

Hannah gets stage fright and stops telling her story

He was chattering like crazy until I hit record on my iMac. Then she gave a little smile and quickly switched to fussy mode. Oh well.

Several video clips of Hannah at 7 weeks old

Dana shot and made this little video of Hannah Love. There's some pretty fun clips of her toppling over onto her side about half-way through and a little smile at the end. :)
