Muslim teen girl converts to Christianity and receives death threat from family

I watched this teen girl's testimony on YouTube and enjoyed her enthusiasm and passion for the Lord. It was recorded earlier this summer.

Then I watched this video and realized that the fears she mentioned in her testimony started becoming a reality around August.

Here's a CBN news report that goes into more detail.

A little further research online indicates that the trial is scheduled for October 27 in Ohio, although she currently lives with foster parents in Florida. She also apparently has received death threats from Muslim groups in other countries, especially Italy.

This girl surely inspires me. If she's willing to stand up against her family in Jesus name when renouncing Him could provide safety and make all this go away, I have no excuse for not bringing God up in conversations. This is pretty cool to see, especially from a 17 year old.

My youth group is in the middle of a 5 week series on evangelism. Tonight we talked about sharing our "faith stories" (testimonies) and I used these videos tonight and others to give examples of what a testimony is and about sharing it even when we're afraid of "persecution." But I tell you what, we have such a weak view of persecution compared to Rifqa Bary. We are sometimes way too comfortable and passive in the USA.

A new way to play volleyball at youth group

We did this tonight with our high school group. Play regular volleyball, but hang sheets over the net so neither team can see when or where the ball is coming from until it's almost too late to react! So much fun! lol

Then we took the sheets off the net and played a regular game of catching and tossing the volleyball back and forth with each team around their sheet, holding on to the edges. Fun times!

Communication avenues for my youth group

I'll probably publish a summary of this list at StudentMinistry.org sometime, but I just updated the little handout sheet that sits on our youth kiosk at church, so I thought I'd post it here in case it's helpful for anyone.

My '08-'09 annual youth ministry report

Every year each ministry in my church submits a report summarizing the last year of ministry. With our church's annual meeting right around the corner, it's that time of year again. The reports from all the ministries are compiled together and saved pretty much forever, I think. This report is different than the goals/objectives kinda report -- those we do for the congregational meeting at a different time of the year. This is merely a reflection on the past year, but I threw in some forward-looking comments anyway just because I can't help but think that way.

My video with Bob Stromberg: Crafting the art of storytelling

A couple weeks ago Bob Stromberg did a comedy concert at our church. Afterwards I was able to catch him to shoot a quick video on "Crafting the art of storytelling." Thanks to my brother, Mark, for filming it, and to Bob for taking the time to invest into us youth workers!

My proposed to-do list for Labor Day

  • Change lots of diapers and take care of Hannah so Dana can rest (which is what I'm doing right now, actually).
  • Add two new free web designs to MinistryWebsites.biz for clients to choose from.
  • Make some follow-up phone calls with potential new youth leaders for this year. Our orientation/training meeting is this Wednesday! Yikes!
  • Go on a walk with Dana and Hannah at the park.
  • Shoot and edit the intro video for the Online Missions Trip.
  • Swing out on the hammock and start reading, "It: How churches and leaders can get it and keep it," by Craig Groeschel.
  • Do a video call with Hannah and the in-laws on Google Talk or Skype.
  • Beat Dana in air hockey!

Peter Olson's soccer victory over Brainerd

Dana and I went to a high school soccer game tonight and watched one of our youth group kids score the winning goal for us with only seconds left on the clock. Good job, Peter!

It was also cool to see both teams kneel down and pray together at the end of the game, especially for being public school teams!

Hannah at her first soccer game

Dana and I are here at the high school soccer game to watch some students play. So far we're losing 0-1.

Wake 'n Ski highlight video

Through the summer our youth group takes one Sunday a month to wake board, water ski, tube, and have dinner together followed by a little devotional from me. Today was the last Wake 'n Ski for the summer.

Here's a highlight video of some of the fun we had on the lake today.
